One of our fruitiest coffees, Wanoja Berry Candy is a vibrant and expressive natural from Wanoja Coffee Farmers Group in West Java.

Founded in 2012 by Hj. Eti Sumiati, Wanoja—meaning “woman” in Sundanese—began as a small group of six female coffee farmers. Today, Wanoja is recognised for both the quality of its coffee and its commitment to positive change, supporting local farmers while restoring the surrounding environment through reforestation and soil conservation.

Naturally processed by drying the whole coffee cherry, this lot allows the fruit’s sugars and flavours to develop throughout the drying process. The result is an intensely fruity cup bursting with raspberry, strawberry, and the nostalgic sweetness of Japanese fruit drops.

Roasted light for filter brewing, it’s a playful and candy-like expression of Indonesian natural coffee.

Note: this particular coffee will benefit from extra resting. We recommend at least 10-14 days of resting before brewing.

Roasting

We roast our filter coffees light and our espresso coffees medium-light to showcase the unique character of each coffee.

Our philosophy is simple: light, but well developed - preserving origin flavours while bringing out sweetness, balance, and the coffee's full flavour potential.

Grinding

We grind all of our coffee on the Lagom 01, widely regarded as one of the highest-clarity coffee grinders available today.

Kopi Tubruk Grind

Our Kopi Tubruk grind is a coarse grind designed for the traditional Indonesian brewing method, Kopi Tubruk. Simple, accessible, and requiring minimal equipment, it's one of the easiest ways to enjoy specialty coffee at home.

To brew, simply add 15g of coffee to 225g of hot water (1:15 ratio), allow it to steep for 4 minutes, then remove any excess floating grounds before drinking. That's it.

Why we chose this coffee

Natural coffees can sit across a wide spectrum, from light and delicate to heavy, bold, and intensely fruity. Wanoja Berry Candy firmly sits on the latter end. It’s bursting with raspberry and strawberry, with a deep fruit intensity that develops into a distinct, candy-like sweetness as the coffee rests and ages.

This is one of the most distinctive coffees we’ve featured. We chose it not only for its remarkable fruit character, but also because we wanted to showcase Wanoja—a producer we deeply respect within the Indonesian coffee community, whose coffees are frequently selected for and recognised in coffee competitions.

For us, it’s a chance to bring you a coffee that represents both the character of an exceptional Indonesian Natural and the quality of a producer we’ve been excited to work with.

Origin Story

Wanoja

Wanoja is one of Indonesia’s most respected coffee producers, founded in 2012 by Hj. Eti Sumiati in the highlands of West Java. Meaning “woman” in Sundanese, Wanoja began as a small collective of female coffee farmers with a vision to create lasting social and environmental impact through coffee. Over the years, that vision has grown into a model for sustainable coffee production, empowering local farming communities while restoring and protecting the surrounding landscape.

What sets Wanoja apart is their belief that great coffee and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. Through large-scale reforestation, soil conservation, organic farming practices, and a zero-waste approach to production, they have helped rehabilitate degraded land in Kamojang while reducing erosion and flood risk. Their work has transformed former agricultural land into a thriving coffee-growing ecosystem, proving that specialty coffee can be a force for long-term environmental restoration.

Their commitment to quality has earned international recognition. Wanoja achieved an extraordinary result in Indonesia’s inaugural Cup of Excellence, placing 2nd and 5th overall against the country's best coffees. They have continued to build on this success, establishing a reputation for producing some of the most sought-after coffees in Indonesia while showcasing the potential of West Java on the world stage.
